Why Charlotte? Many people have asked me this lately…As we approach our 20 year anniversary in 2018 we have been very blessed to have done business all over the world and throughout many states across the country. We’ve done business with Toyota, Verizon, Wells Fargo, Arker Solutions, not to mention many law firms, banks, hospitals, etc. Charleston has definitely been good for Blackwell and I love it from a personal standpoint as well.

But the world is changing very rapidly…we don’t wear suits to work anymore (I used to do that). Technology has changed dramatically — we didn’t have cell phones or digital cameras or websites when I started out and the pace was much slower. Not to date myself, but we only had 3 channels on the TV to choose from when I was growing up. Now there are infinite channels across multiple delivery platforms. Which leads us back to the question, “why Charlotte?”

Charlotte has about 15 times the population of Charleston and its growing by several thousand a month. It has a great airport that will allow me to be one step closer to clients when needed, and the proximity to business opportunity is simply greater. Our firm has always been some what of a generalist, offering branding, positioning, and an array of marketing and communications services to a broad assortment of clientele. With the move to Charlotte, we will rebrand our operations in the south as BCO Digital. Our goal is to give every executive or partner the opportunity to have a professional digital video profile. By adding or updating existing profiles we will provide organizations with a vehicle to efficiently enhance their perception and brand by being more approachable, authentic, and “human.”

Here are a few interesting stats about the importance of digital video from a recent article in the National Law Review:

• (Video provides) Better search results. According to Forrester Research, websites with video are 53x more likely than traditional websites to be found on the first page of Google search results. (You do know that Google owns YouTube, right?)

• Better retention. Forrester Research found that people retain 58% more with both visual and auditory stimulation.

• More traffic. Forrester Research reports that over 60% of all web traffic comes from online video.

• More likely to buy. People who view a video are 64% more likely to purchase (comScore).

• More likely to be shared. Video has the best potential to be shared and go viral compared with other media.

As we live in the age of the “selfie” we hope we head-off the urge of our clients and prospects from doing low quality production using the receptionist or someone from HR to produce in-house video (I didn’t mention this stat above but poor quality, regarding sound and production are also big reasons people will leave a web page). I have always built brands around what I believe is the most important asset a client has…it’s people. We want to convert or supplement all the static/written content online regarding people, to engaging, authentic and dynamic video content.

I have always had really good people around me and that hasn’t changed. We are looking forward to helping our clients build stronger brands, communicate with greater clarity, and ultimately be positioned to compete in the marketplace — better than their competition.
